Step by step

I submitted my final dissertation last week. It was a huge sense of accomplishment and relief. My decision to rejoin college (online) was the right decision. The last two years were different. I indulged myself in journals and papers. I remember my first weekly assignments and essays. It was a huge task for me to write a paragraph, and structure words, sentences, paragraphs, and an essay. And last week, I submitted my 15,000-word dissertation. I clicked 'submit'. And now I am waiting for my result. In the last two years, I realised that reading is romanticised and it is not as easy as it appears. To learn from reading requires understanding, which comes from deliberation and dedication. Academic papers were difficult to digest and I had to re-reading and master note-taking. Finally, writing is the highest form of knowledge. Good writing requires a lot of reading (re-reading) and massive writing, rewriting and editing.  For now, I am enjoying my Dashain, without assignments and ...

Rain, flooding and Kathmandu Marathon

It was an incessant rain on 28 September 2024, the whole night and day. Kathmandu started to flood. I have never seen the Bagmati River this angry. According to the Meteorology department, this was a record-high rain in 24 hours in Kathmandu, which far exceeded expectations. Bagmati River rose up to the bridge. All houses and roads on the bank of the river were flooded. The rest of the roads in Kathmandu were quiet, whereas the roaring Bagmati continued to sweep away squatters and people. Little out of the perimeter of Kathmandu Valley, the landslide on the highway swept three vehicles killing at least 35 people. The total death has crossed 200 and the numbers continue to rise. Thousands of people were stranded on the highways, without support. It was a disaster in the true sense. Despite this, the race continued. The Kathmandu Marathon organizers decided to go ahead.
