Neverending story of coffee

The days in Addis Ababa are phenomenal - because of many adventures, like being able to access the internet all the time, making calls, meet with many of my country's people and Dal Bhat after 2 centuries. On top of all the reasons, I went to Tomoco coffee, the first coffee exporter in Addis.  I can not explain the aroma and taste in words. The coffee ...... The aroma and .....

Weekend thoughts

It rained raining heavily - almost for the whole day - except for few hours in the afternoon. How unpredictable the weather is?, that's the reason it is beautiful. And that is also the reason it is hazardous. The uncertainty is beautiful because it is unpredictable. The uncertainty is also risk because it is unpredictable. It brings surprises. We, Human, do not normally like it. We try to make things as certain as possible. We use tools and methods to have some level of certainty. We forecast, we try to understand the past, to see the future. And we all know what Nassim Nicholas Taleb told about forecasting.  Sunday afternoon, I took an unplanned walk around, it was sunny. It was beautiful. But few things are certain. For example, I feel good, when I receive pictures from home. They are parceled with a bit of smile, a bit of न्यास्रो (sorry don't know the English word) and a lots of warmth. I need them, because it rained again. Happy weekend!...

Because she is my rose

The little prince (Antoine De Saint - Exupéry) " You are beautiful , but you are empty," he went on. "One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passer-by would think that my rose looked just like you - the rose that belongs to me. But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses: because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen: because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillar (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when see grumbled, or boasted, or  even sometime when she said nothing. Because she is my rose.

what you see is all there is

""What you see is all there is" is the way our mind treats the information that is currently available and information we do not have. The mind constructs the best possible story that incorporates the idea currently activated. But it does not allow the information it doesn't have." The mind only accepts the information that supports the preconceived conclusions and fits it to reinforce the story. And the stories are powerful, it is probably the only thing that makes humans superior to other species. 'What you see is all there is a beautiful phenomenon. We rely on information that comes to mind and construct a coherent story to make sense of the information. The illusion of knowledge and illusion of solutions based on past experiences delude the reality that world affairs are linear.  These biases are apparent. No one is to blame for these cognitive biases. They were, possibly, required for human survival in prehistoric time. Now, the world is much more compl...

1984

George Orwell knew 70 years ago - he had imagined the world then. War is peace Freedom is slavery Ignorance is strength.

Another (un)usual Weekend

As everybody 'normal' office employees, the weekend is awaited. Wow, the weekend arrives but just to realize that they are just weekdays, renamed as Saturday and Sunday. My plan was to wake up late, trim my hair ( yes, I do it twice a week), afternoon nap, and read. Saturday morning, I had to rush to the office for 'urgent' work, followed by deadlines for urgent reports, to make matter worse, the slow internet pushed away all my plans. Though I had a long video chat with a family and I concluded that my Saturday afternoon was good. Additionally, I enjoyed a bit of Sun. I also managed to do my hair, (yes) and scanned through some book chapters late in the evening. Sunday morning, I prepared my old body for a 10 km hiking. I was under pressure to maintain a 'Nepali' image, and walk uphill without looking like a tired hiker. It took not only my breath away, but almost my lungs. The hilltop has a magnificent view of the town. A cold wind dried up a sweat...

Take a long breathing

"Men search for meaning" is an absolute must-read book and applicable to everyone in every way. As the yogi says, "let go". Difficult done than said. Letting go of all feelings of difficulty is difficult. Letting go of the imagination of enjoying with family is difficult and letting go of the moment otherwise I would be holding my daughter is impossible. Take long breathing and LET GO. A few things I have learned here in the last few months is that the situation is not a determinant factor for contentment. I see around, and I see the majority of people seem happy and a few unhappy. Same environment, but very contrasting reactions. It's all our reaction to the situation.. that's all. Every moment is special in itself and every moment is an opportunity to define, redefine and improve the inner self. This is my learning. Unfortunately, I am unable to implement this myself. The search for meaning to life determines survival, as Victor said. The ultim...
