No title and many topics

Today, there is no specific topic to write about. This is a random hit on the keyboard. I have no specific stories to share today but many random topics.

When life is subtle and calm, there are less stories. Isn't it what everyone aims for? Calm and quiet, storyless dull and stable time. Mobility gives stories, travel gives experience and knowledge. On the contrary, stability is what we seek in the end. Predictability is what we want. Unknown is scary. Palm astronomy and horoscope are easy, cheap and give a false sense of security. Wise people learn from experience of others and self. Uncertainty is possible to be calculated and calibrated, not by tarot cards but by tools for example the good judgement. I read a book ‘super forecasting’ - I am amazed by the science behind the forecasting. A right question is the basic.

Now about fitness. I have never been this 'feels good' in the last 24 years - after I finished my police officer’s training. The life after police was different - no exercise lazy, big belly, alcohol and crap food.

Nothing changed for long time. I felt somewhere it has to be started. The change was slow and daunting. It required deliberation. Results motivated me to keep going. This week is one of my best, with four runnings, every alternative days and I had three personal records.

Now study - I joined college in the end of 2022 - and now I am on my final module. I think I am doing good - slow process but definitely in the right direction. A friend of mine from Egypt who completed masters from the same college this year joined another masters to have PhD after 3 years. What an aim, what a plan. He inspired me. I do not have big big aims as his, nevertheless, I am enjoying every paper I read and every paper I write.

There are 1000 more reasons to be happy - and feel lively. The mobility and travels are what I like - mostly. Pause gives a moment to reflect back and gear up for another venture.

Having a new story to tell is definitely exciting. The actual beauty is when I crave for another story, the story that awaits me - to be explored and to be crafted.

My Morning, Their Midnight

Time is relative. I am not bragging about Einstein's Theory of Relativity. This is about several time zones within Kathmandu city. Five o’clock is not universally “early morning.” This morning, it was a usual morning for me. But the empty roads suggested that for many others, it was still midnight. Near the temples, devotees were already walking back from their prayers. Their day had clearly begun long before mine. I imagine they must be thinking, "Ah, the late risers are out." The Pursuit of 3:59

I registered for my next marathon. The 18th Kathmandu Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, 10 October 2026, just one day before Ghatasthapana. The following morning, Dashain will begin. Families will gather, kites will appear in the sky, Dashain dhuun and smells of the festival. And for me, if all goes according to plan, it will also mark the end of a three-month break from alcohol. What a day to resume a glass of whiskey. I am giving myself three months to prepare properly. No shortcuts. No excuses. Clean eating. Consistent running. Adequate rest. I am breaking my last year's marathon record of 4 hours and 28 minutes. This year, the target is clear: sub-four hours. But James chose the right job: to become an assassin. he is still a government employee, and much of his identity as 007 is as an MI6 agent. Our surnames are based on profession. My surname is Maharjan, which means a farmer. I no more do farming; nonetheless, the surname remains deeply embedded in social identity. My surname says what my parents and ancestors used to do for a living. Many government quota systems are still based on surnames. The book Thief

I finished The Book Thief this week. The first thing that stands out about the novel is its narrator. The story is told from the perspective of Death. Rather than appearing as a terrifying force, Death becomes an observer, a collector of souls, and ultimately a storyteller. Out of the millions of lives that pass before him, he keeps returning to one ordinary yet remarkable girl: Liesel Meminger. Liesel is a foster child growing up on Himmel Street, a modest working-class street in Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Through Death's narration, we witness her life, her struggles, her friendships, and the quiet moments that unfold beneath the shadow of a devastating conflict. What impressed me most was the simplicity with which the story is told. There are no grand military campaigns or dramatic political speeches.
